PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an simple-structured variable attenuator which can be integrated in a microwave integrated circuit (MMIC). SOLUTION: The variable attenuator 100 comprises transmission lines 103, 104 oppositely laid with a space, a grounded ground electrode 112, a resistor 110 connected to the opposite ends of the transmission lines 103, 104 and the ground electrode 112, and a control electrode 173 contacted with a part of the resistor 110 between the opposite ends and the ground electrode 112.
