The present invention describes the use of a low-noise signal that is processed to indentify waveform timing reference points that are used to provide the reference points with which a high-resolution, high precision representative waveform is extracted from a noisy quasi-periodic signal. For example, the representative waveform of a noisy biological signal of a patient is determined with temporal and amplitude resolution and precision by evaluating a plurali ty of physiological signals acquired from the patient. For example, a medical devi ce may evaluate a plurality of physiological signals such as electrocardiogram (EKG) signals, phonocardiogram signals, and optical plethysmograph signals f or features that are indicative of the timing of the cardiac pulse and extracts from the phonocardiogram a representative waveform of the first and second heart sounds. The present invention may also be configured to extract representati ve waveforms of other physiological signals and representative waveforms of noisy, quasi-periodic signals in other fields of application. |
