<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fault location method which can perform location through simple, direct calculations with the synchronization of terminals eliminated. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Using the voltage, current, and power transmission line constant between both ends of a line subjected to location 1 of a power transmission line, letting the distance x from a predetermined one end A to a fault F be an unknown, a quadratic equation obtained by letting the squares of the magnitude of the fault voltage of the faulty phase seen from both ends be equal to each other, thereby calculating the distance from the predetermined one end to the fault.
