974,141. Blow-moulding hollow articles. SIMALEX Ltd. June 19, 1962 [June 20, 1961], No. 23465/62. Heading B5A. Printed matter is applied to a blown plastic article by removing part of the mould, coating the inner surface of the removed portion with a tape carrying the print, replacing the mould part, delivering plastic to the mould and blow moulding the article. A portion 14 of a mould 13 is removed by piston 15 connected to a cylinder 16. Cylinder 31 and piston 30 lower table 31a which carries a drum 33, divided into quadrants, and a reel of tape containing the print. When the table is lowered the drum is in front of and nearly touching the mould part 14, which is then placed under vacuum while the vacuum caused by pipe 47 is released. The table 31a is raised and the portion 14 is replaced in the mould wall. The mould is closed, the extruded plastic is delivered and the article is blow-moulded. As this occurs, cylinder 42 causes the drum 33 to rotate one quarter of a revolution and the hot wire 50 cuts the tape. The tape is held in position on the drum by means of a vacuum applied by pipes 46, 47 through the holes 40 and the pins 41. |
