An ink cartridge (2) having a waste ink absorbing function, comprising a compartment (70) formed in a cartridge case (30) so as to hold a waste ink absorbing member (20) therein and a plastic film (60) forming at least a par t of the compartment (70), wherein the waste ink absorbing member (20) in the compartment (70) can be replaced readily after the plastic film (60) has bee n cut or stripped off. A new plastic film (60) needs only to be fixed to the inside of the cartridge case (30) after the replacement of the waste ink absorbing member (20) has been completed, whereby the ink cartridge (2) can be provided more economically than when a plastic plate is fixed to a cartridge case, and can be reduced in the dimensions and weight thereof.
