PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer in which a possibility of an ink ribbon being broken off is reduced, and an efficiency of a printing time is secured, when a plurality of small-sized images are printed with a large-sized ink ribbon. SOLUTION: In a dye-sublimation printer, when a plurality of images of a size smaller than a surface of an ink layer, a density of the images to be printed is determined. When the density is high, respective ink layer surfaces of an ink ribbon 1 are used from a rewinding direction, or when the density is not high, respective ink layer surfaces of the ink ribbon 1 are used from a winding direction. The possibility of the ink ribbon being broken off is thereby reduced when the plurality of small-sized images are printed with the large sized ink ribbon, so that a stabilized printing process is provided and the efficiency of the printing time is secured.
