<p>The invention relates to medicine, mainly to gynaecology, and to methods and means for preventing an undesired pregnancy, in particular to intrauterine contraception methods and intrauterine copper-containing contraceptive means (ICM). The inventive method consists in placing an intrauterine contraceptive means comprising a plastic base, which is used for arranging copper elements thereon and whose transversal part is embodied in the form of shoulders and connected to a longitudinal leg-shaped part, in the uterine cavity, prior to the ICM introduction, in measuring the size of the uterine cavity fundic breadth at the 5-7th day of a menstrual cycle, in selecting the intrauterine contraceptive means whose cross-section size by 2-4 mm smaller than the uterine cavity fundal breadth and in positioning the lateral ends of the copper elements, which are placed on the shoulders, in such a way that a distance between said copper element ends and the distal ends of the shoulders is equal to or less than 4 mm. The contraceptive effect is attainable by preventing fertilisation, reducing a frequency of complications in terms of haemorrhage, pains and expulsions and by substantially reducing a copper ion concentration in a patient blood.</p> |
