<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prolong the life of a developing unit 4 by preventing such a trouble that toner shifts to a photoreceptor drum 1 when a developing roller 43 comes in contact with the photoreceptor drum 1, and preventing soiling on the rear side of a recording material. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus using the contact developing unit 4, and including a contacting/separating mechanism of bringing the developing roller 43 in contact with or separating from the photoreceptor drum 1, is provided with a carried developer quantity reducing means for reducing the quantity of the toner carried by the developing roller 43 smaller than that in an image forming operation. When bringing the developing roller 43 in contact with the photoreceptor drum 1, the surface with the carried toner quantity reduced by the carried developer quantity reducing means of the developing roller 43 is abutted on the photoreceptor drum 1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
