PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a phenol resin for an epoxy resin curing agent, which has excellent curability, low moisture absorption property of molding and effect of making molding appearance voidless and to provide a method for producing the same and to obtain an epoxy resin composition. SOLUTION: The method for producing a phenol resin for an epoxy resin curing agent comprises a process (a) for condensing a phenol (P) with a compound (A) having an aralkyl structure in a reaction system and a process (b) adding a solvent having≤150°C boiling point to the reaction system after the process (a) and removing the dinuclear and mononuclear components of the phenol resin to≤5 wt.% based on the total of the phenol resin. The phenol resin for an epoxy resin curing agent is obtained by the production method. The epoxy resin composition comprises the phenol resin for an epoxy resin curing agent, an epoxy resin and an inorganic filler. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
