PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform accurate head positioning to a discrete track while permitting super-high recording density magnetic recording. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording apparatus comprises: a composite type magnetic head having a recording head and a reproducing head; a hard disk provided with a correction information recording area into which the discrete area and correction information for head positioning can be written, and a center deviation amount detecting area for measuring a center deviation amount of the discrete track center from a tracking center; a head reproduction signal processing circuit 615 for reading the center deviation amount detecting information by the reproducing head while the reproducing head is shifted in the radial direction by a predetermined distance from a position where the reproducing head is positioned at a predetermined track; and an amplitude value storage decision circuit 612 which performs reading of the head shifting and the center deviation amount detecting information several times, and determines the positioning correction information based on the read-out center deviation amount detecting information.
