PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a leather-like sheet material having high color fastness to light which is previously unheard, sufficient physical properties, soft feeling, smooth touch, decency and sense of fulfillment, and to provide a method for producing the sheet material. SOLUTION: The invention relates to the leather-like sheet material characteristically comprising ultra-fine staple fibers with monofilament fineness of 0.0001-0.5 decitex and composed of a dyed nonwoven fabric structure substantially comprising only fiber materials wherein the fiber materials contain ultraviolet absorber. The method for producing the leather-like sheet material comprises entangling staple fibers which produce ultrafine staple fibers with monofilament fineness of 0.0001-0.5 decitex, by needle punching method and then producing the ultra-fine fibers from a nonwoven ultra-fine fiber fabric followed by a high speed fluid treatment with a pressure of at least 10 MPa to entangle the fabric again and dying and washing. The process impregnates the ultra-fine fibers with the ultraviolet absorber at the same time with dyeing and/or after dyeing. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
