PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form both of magnetostrictive film and pinion by each of optimum machining in relation to a torque transmission shaft, and to enhance stability of a magnetostrictive characteristic of the magnetostrictive film. SOLUTION: This electric power steering device 10 has a constitution to steer steered wheels 31 by transmitting steering torque to steer a steering wheel 21 to a rack shaft 26 via the torque transmission shaft 24 and a rack and pinion 25. The device 10 is provided with a magnetostrictive type torque sensor 41 for detecting the steering torque transmitted to the torque transmission shaft 24. The torque transmission shaft 24 is constituted of a torque side shaft 61 formed with the magnetostrictive film of the magnetostrictive type torque sensor 41 on an outer peripheral surface and a pinion shaft 62 formed with the pinion 32 of the rack and pinion 25.
