PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device capable of uniforming a gap between substrates. SOLUTION: The device 1 includes: a liquid crystal layer; a pair of substrates arranged opposite to each other across the liquid crystal layer; and a ring-like seal material 5 arranged between the pair of substrates so as to surround the liquid crystal layer. The seal material 5 is constituted of a conductive part 5A for connecting wires on the pair of substrates and a non-conductive part 5B. Gap material particles 52A and conductive particles 53A are contained in the conductive part 5A, and other gap material particles 52B are contained in the non-conductive part 5B.
