PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a field instrument control system and a field instrument control method which can reduce burdens of development and maintenance substantially by eliminating the necessity of making the application unique to an instrument into a plug-in application for each instrument. SOLUTION: The present invention is a field instrument control system that communicates with a field instrument using application software and controls the field instrument. A virtual application mechanism 1 acquires the information for specifying an object application 30, starts the object application 30, and acquires information for specifying an object HART instrument 5 to communicate with. A virtual driver mechanism 2 receives the information for specifying the object HART instrument 5 acquired by the virtual application mechanism 1, and, based on the information, carries out the communication with the object HART instrument 5 by the object application 30.
