PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline battery excellent in heavy load discharging property, with small scatter of filling quantity of a gelatinous anode. SOLUTION: The alkaline battery has a cathode containing cathode acting material, and the gelatinous anode 6 containing anode acting material containing zinc, electrolyte liquid, polyacrylate, and polyacrylic acid having BET (Brunauer, Emmett and Teller method) specific surface area of 25 to 45 m<SP>2</SP>/g.
