A method for separation of materials according to the magnetic properties includes supply of primary material between the pole piece of electromagnetic system and rotating shaft with annular protrusions, separation of nonmagnetic particles from shaft by jointed action of gravitational and centrifugal forces with their delivery into the receiver of nonmagnetic particles, displacement of magnetic particles by shaft to the place of unloading in the receiver of magnetic particles. Prior to supply of primary material it is determined the form and arrangement in the space of the ballistic trajectory of the motion of nonmagnetic particles, which are separated from the shaft, which is rotated at operating rotation frequency, and the end portion of the pole piece of electromagnetic system along the initial phase of ballistic trajectory of the motion of nonmagnetic particles is assigned from the zone of separation of nonmagnetic particles.
