The invention concerns a process for the preparation of 1-mono(C1-C4) alkyl naphthalene, which consists in that an interaction of alcohol is performed with alkyl chain C1-C4 with naphthalene and polyphosphoric acid in the presence of n-toluene sulfonic acid as catalyst at heating, at that alcohol is used at 1.5 fold excess and into the synthesis there is introduced for 2.5-3 hours with maintainingtemperature of 75-85 DEGREE C, and the obtained reaction mass is kept in these conditions for not less than 1 hour to a complete finishing the reaction.
