PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester film capable of giving high-quality images without unevennesses and defects and with high-grade luminosity when used as a member for LCD, PDP, organic EL, projection display, etc., and also high in dimensional stability as a member. SOLUTION: The biaxially oriented polyester film for optical use has a coating layer on at least one side thereof, being≥91.0% in overall light transmittance. The film meets the relationship:-0.2×(θ3)+40≤Δn×1,000≤-0.2×(θ3)+70[wherein,Δn is birefringence; andθ3 is the angle made by the principal orientation axis with the film's MD(machine direction)].
