PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for oxidizing an alcohol compound, by which the oxidization reaction from an alcoholic hydroxyl group into a carbonyl group can be performed in mild conditions. SOLUTION: This method for oxidizing the alcohol compound, comprising oxidizing the C-OH portion of an aliphatic alcohol into a CO portion, is characterized by dehydrogenating the C-OH portion of the aliphatic alcohol such as D-glucal into the aliphatic carbonyl compound such as 2-deoxy-1,5-anhydro-D-glucitol in the presence of a dehydration catalyst and a nitro compound. According to the oxidation method, the oxidation reaction from the hydroxyl group into the carbonyl group, having a problem that reaction substrates are limited because of generally needing severe reaction conditions, and a problem accompanying the by-production of harmful wastes such as stoichiometric heavy metal-based by-products, can be carried out in mild conditions.
