PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for thawing an object to be thawed, for effectively thawing an object to be thawed without damaging the object to be thawed, and evenly thawing articles in thawing a block-like object to be thawed containing a plurality of frozen articles. SOLUTION: This method for thawing the object to be thawed comprises supplying liquid to a storage tank (8) to produce first current (F1) flowing so as to surround the object to be thawed, and thawing while rotating the object to be thawed. The first current (F1) makes a cylindrical shape extending to a horizontal longitudinal direction (18), produces second current which flows from each end (FE1 and FE2) to the central part (FC) in the central part (FI) of the first current (F1) and moves the object to be thawed to the central part (FC). When thawing the block-like object to be thawed containing a plurality of frozen articles, third current which directs to one end (FE2) is produced on the periphery (FO) of the first current (F1), and the articles separated from the object to be thawed are moved to the one end (FE2) to discharge from the storage tank (8).
