PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To apply a driving current proper for unlatching a head to a head moving mechanism by measuring unlatching force necessary for unlatching the head regarding a storage device, or to detect a storage device equipped with a latch mechanism having latching force smaller than a design value at the time of its shipment. SOLUTION: The storage device for loading/unloading a head in a storage medium includes: a latching mechanism for latching an unloaded head; a head moving mechanism for moving the head; a measuring part for applying a certain current for moving the head in a loading direction to the head moving mechanism to measure a back electromotive voltage, and calculating the moving speed and the acceleration of the head to measure the unlatching force necessary for unlatching the latched head; a storage part for storing information indicating the measured unlatching force in the storage device; and a control part for applying a driving current corresponding to the stored information to the head moving mechanism in a state the head is latched, when loading.
