PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an auxiliary member for joining, which can acquire sufficient joining strength, without being affected by rust-resisting paint for being applied to a base material and a splice plate, and without causing variations in the penetration of a protrusion. SOLUTION: In this auxiliary member 1 for joining, linear blade-like protrusions 2 are juxtaposed in a direction orthogonal to the longitudinal direction of the base material. Groove parts 3 are formed on both the sides of a base part of each blade-like protrusion 2, respectively. The blade-like protrusion 2 and the groove part 3 are each provided in such a manner as to be protruded from or recessed into the flat surface 4 of a plate material. The blade-like protrusion 2 and the groove part 3 satisfy the relational expressions: h1>h2 and b/2>h2. In the relational expressions, h1 represents the height of the blade-like protrusion 2 from the flat surface 4; h2 represents the depth of the groove part 3 from the flat surface 4; and b represents the width of the groove part 3. The cross-sectional area A, above the flat surface 4, of the blade-like protrusion 2, and the cross-sectional areas B and C of the groove part 3 satisfy the relationship: A<B+C.
