PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the printing grade by performing printing in such a manner that level differences or unevenness in the printing of multiple gradations may not be conspicuous by suppressing them as much as possible in a line type thermal printer which performs a split printing. SOLUTION: In the data transferring method to the thermal head when the split printing is performed, the transferring sequence for data elements of a first half is performed in the opposite way from the transferring sequence for data elements of a second half. That is, as the transferring sequence for the first half, the data transfer for the portion of minimum necessity coloring energy elements is performed after the transfer of data for the portion of each bit element of gradation data. Thus, coloring positions for the first half for each gradation is made closer to a vicinity of the border of the split (the position at which the level difference and unevenness in the printing occur), and the printing grade for the thermal printer accompanying the carrying of the printing medium during printing can be improved.
