PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the supplement efficiency and miscibility of ink in an ink jet recorder equipped with an absorber in a subtank. SOLUTION: When the ink is supplemented, the absorber 50 is pressed by a pressing mechanism 51 to crush the absorber 50. Thereby, when the ink absorbed by (held by) the absorber 50 can be once discharged from the absorber 50 compulsorily. Thereby, if the impression by the pressing mechanism 51 is relieved, since the absorber 50 is going to expand in the original size according to its restoration force, not only the ink discharged at the time of the compression but also the supplemented ink existing in the surroundings of the absorber 50 is absorbed by the absorber 50. Therefore, since the ink existing in the surroundings of the absorber 50 can be certainly absorbed (adsorbed) to the absorber 50, the supplementing efficiency and miscibility of the ink can be improved.
