The method involves evaluating a route for a vehicle from a point of origin depending on route criteria by a control unit (4) of a navigation device (1), and determining the requirements of refilling auxiliary materials such as cooling water, pane washing water, engine oil, transmission oil and/or reducing agents such as urea, aqueous ammonia and hydrocarbon, for operating the vehicle. A routing for the possibility of refilling of the auxiliary materials is provided. An independent claim is also included for a navigation device for implementing a route planning method.
