The electric motor has a commutator mounted on an armature which is enclosed by and upper and lower housing part (34, 32). Hammer brushes (12) which electrically contact the commutator each have a fastening element (26) which engages directly in a locator (30) in the housing parts. The fastening element can be a cogged detent clamping element. Independent claim describes method for manufacturing electric motor where an armature and hammer brushes are inserted radially into a lower housing part , a conductor plate is mounted radially on the lower housing part and the plug-in contacts (16) on the brushes are inserted in the conductor plate. The upper housing part is then fitted radially onto the lower housing part.
