<p>A motor vehicle airbag module comprises an inflatable airbag (14) having at least one outflow opening with a closing element (22) and a switch mechanism comprising a pyrotechnic igniter (24) that keeps the opening closed and opens it in triggered ignition. The closing element is coupled with the switch mechanism in the closed condition and the ignition element is arranged so that it can move relatively to the closing element on triggering and thus open the closing element. An independent claim is also included for a further module as above in which the switch mechanism comprises a hook.</p>
