A method for preparing a biphenyltetrazole derivative is provided to require a simple manufacturing process without using a very toxic trialkyltinazide and be able to obtain a desired product with high yield and high purity using cheap and safe materials. The method for preparing a biphenyltetrazole derivative represented by the formula(2) comprises a step of reacting a compound represented by the formula(1) with an alkali metal azide in the presence of a substituted amine acid addition salt represented by the formula(4), R1R2R3N.HX, a substituted pyridine acid addition salt represented by the formula(5) or a mixture thereof. In the formulae, Y is C1-6 alkyl, Z is hydroxy methyl, each R1, R2 and R3 is independently H, C1-6 alkyl or phenyl, and X is halogen.
