The changer has a roll stand comprising a retainer, in which a material roll (02) is supported in a rotatable manner, where a material web (03) is unreeled alternatively by the material roll and is divided by a separating device under formation of a material web end. A supplying device (01) is supported in an adjustable manner and attaches a fastening unit to the material web end and/or to a peripheral surface of the material roll, where the fastening unit is provided for fastening the material web end to the peripheral surface. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a roll changer.
