The method involves centrally automatically simulating a controller (S) of a traffic light system (LSA) of a traffic-light controlled road network, and calculating a green signal time allocation of the system based on the simulated controller. A simulated capacity value is calculated based on the calculated time allocation, and traffic condition of the road network is automatically estimated by considering the simulated capacity value. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an arrangement for estimating traffic condition in a traffic light controlled road network (2) a simulating unit for integration into an arrangement for estimating traffic condition (3) a traffic engineering system for estimating traffic condition (4) a computer program product with program codes.
