PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation system and a method for correcting a vehicle position, which detect conditions where a vehicle is located near an institution, where arm stretch-out operation of the driver is performed, and correct the vehicle position. SOLUTION: The navigation system comprises a vehicle position detecting means for detecting the vehicle position; a detecting means which detects an operational event such that the driver stretches the arm out of a vehicle window, an institution database for storing positional data of a place of the institution where an operation is performed such that the driver stretches the arm out of the vehicle window, and a position-correcting means which corrects the vehicle position. The position correcting means corrects the vehicle position by using the positional data of place of the institution, when such a condition that the vehicle is located near a prescribed institution is detected, and the driver stretches the arm out of the vehicle window.
