PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the reliability by suppressing the wear of gears in a looper drive system and making assembling and controlling easy. SOLUTION: A looper device 25 has: a looper shaft 40 holding a looper 12 so as to be able to integrally rotate; a key 49 rotatably and vertically movably supporting the looper shaft 40 on a looper support body 11, with a driven gear 48 being passed on the outer periphery of the looper shaft 40 relatively movably in a vertical direction, and coupling the driven gear 48 and the looper shaft 40 integrally rotatably; a bearing 50 holding the driven gear 48 to the looper support body 11 without permitting movement in a vertical direction; a pin 51 stopping the rotation of the looper 12 in a lowered position relative to the looper support body 11; a driving gear 39 mutually meshing with the driven gear 48 in a predetermined position in a vertical direction relative to the looper support body 11; and a motor 36 rotating the driving gear 39.
