PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image reading apparatus capable of acquiring good image data with an effect of EMC reduction remaining. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus is provided with a CCD 11, analog processing circuit 12, AD converter 13, driving timing generating circuit 14, SSCG 15 and crystal resonator 16. A reflection light from an original document received by the CCD 11 is input into the AD converter 13 through the analog processing circuit 12. and converted into digital data by the AD converter 13. A clock subjected to spread modulation by the SSCG 15 is supplied to the CCD 11, analog processing circuit 12, and AD converter 13 from the driving timing generating circuit 14. The driving timing generating circuit 14 stops a spread modulation operation in the SSCG 15 for an optical light shielding pixel period of the CCD 11 for reading an image, an effective pixel period and a CCD pixel period required for original document reading.
