PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitor capable of displaying a desired picture by switching over surrounding pictures in a wide range without needing complicated controls. SOLUTION: A surrounding picture generator 12 photographs by an omni-directional camera 11 to generate a surrounding picture in a wide range. A detector 18 detects the position, condition or operation of a user. A display picture generator 81 generates a display picture according to the detect result from generated surrounding pictures. A display 16 shows the generated display picture. The viewing field of the user is obstructed by a body, the camera 11 is located at a position for photographing an area outside the user's viewing field, and the display 16 or a screen for projecting by the display is located inside the user's viewing field.
