PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recorder capable of performing recording with satisfactory recording quality and with stable recording operation even in optical recording mediums of which a manufacturing method is different. SOLUTION: The optical recorder for recording information by irradiating an upper part of the optical recording medium with light while it is scanned, so as to change optical properties of the optical recording medium, has: a function of reading out information on the manufacturing method from the optical recording medium; a function of comparing the information on the read manufacturing method with information on manufacturing methods which are already stored; and a function of setting a servo characteristic and/or a recording light emission waveform corresponding to the manufacturing method specified by comparative reference, wherein when recording is performed in the optical recording medium in which the manufacturing method is previously recorded, it is set so that a recording method can be changed corresponding to the manufacturing method.
