PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a single phase-three phase converter and a single phase-three phase converting method for enhancing the reliability of an apparatus and enabling a conversion from a single-phase AC voltage to a three-phase AC voltage. SOLUTION: The single phase-three phase converter is provided with: a Scott-connected transformer 1 having terminals 11C, 11D, 12C for inputting the three-phase AC voltage, terminals 11E, 11F for outputting the single-phase AC voltage and terminals 12D, 12E for outputting the single-phase AC voltage with a phase in advance of a phase at the terminals 11E, 11F, and applied with the single-phase AC voltage between the terminals 11E, 11F; a capacitor 2 for advancing a phase of a voltage vector V of the single-phase AC voltage applied between the terminals 11E, 11F, and applying the single-phase AC voltage having the voltage vector V<SB>1</SB>between the terminals 12D, 12E of the Scott-connected transformer 1; and load resistors 3A-3C connected to the terminals 11C, 11D, 12C and generating the three-phase AC voltage.
