摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide effective engine brake by setting intake valve closing timing to normal valve closing timing when fuel supply is stopped at a time of vehicle deceleration and increase combustion stability at a time of fuel supply restart and inhibit torque fluctuation. SOLUTION: In a vehicular engine provided with a valve gear opening and closing an intake valve with enabling to change over valve operation characteristics to a first valve operation characteristics and a second valve operation characteristics for reducing pumping loss by making valve closing timing later than that in the first valve operation characteristics according to an operation condition, and a fuel supply means enabling to stop fuel supply during vehicle deceleration, a control unit 32 controls operation of the valve gear 16 to forcibly make operation characteristics of the intake valve 14 the first valve operation characteristics when fuel supply is stopped and restarted by the fuel supply means 18.
