PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus provided with a charging apparatus improving even the life of a corona wire by improving the cleaning performance of the corona wire, and also to provide a process cartridge. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has the charging apparatus provided with: a corona discharging wire 10 for charging an image carrier on which an electrostatic latent image is formed, or a transfer member for visualizing the electrostatic latent image and then transferring the visualized image to a transfer material, a voltage application power supply for applying voltage to the corona discharging wire 10; and a cleaning member 12 for sliding on the surface of the corona discharging wire 10 to clean the corona discharging wire 10. The charging apparatus cleans the corona discharging wire 10 by the cleaning member 12 while applying voltage to the corona discharging wire 10 by the voltage application power supply.
