PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting insert which improving wear resistance by providing a coat layer on a surface of a ceramic base body and effectively suppressing a strength deterioration phenomenon caused by providing the coat layer. SOLUTION: This cutting insert 5 is provided with the coat layer 5b made by a chemical vapor deposition method, on the surface of the ceramic base body 5a.
