<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating liquid for forming an ink receiving layer which can form a sheet for recording with an ink receiving layer on which printing can be performed clearly without ink spreading and with uniform density and by which a printed matter with excellent water resistance, weatherability and color fading resistance and with enough strength can be obtained, and the sheet for recording with the ink receiving layer. <P>SOLUTION: The coating liquid for forming the ink receiving layer is characterized by dispersing a silica sol (i) in which a silica fine particle with a mean particle diameter in a range of 2-60 nm is dispersed, an organic group-containing silicon compound (ii) expressed by formula (1) R<SB>n</SB>SiX<SB>4-n</SB>and a binder (iii) in a solvent comprising water and/or an organic solvent. In the formula (1), Rs are 1-10C unsubstituted or substituted hydrocarbon groups which may be the same or different from each other and X is a 1-4C alkoxy group, a silanol group, a halogen or a hydrogen and n is an integer of 1-3.
