A liquid crystal display apparatus 1 irradiates a rear surface of a liquid crystal panel with light and displays a screen. The liquid crystal display apparatus 1 has viewing angle improvement means 10 for decreasing light at angles equal to or greater than a predetermined value in a normal direction of the liquid crystal 2 panel from light emitted from a light source and diffusing light at angles smaller than the predetermined value in the normal direction of the liquid crystal panel 2 on a display surface side of the liquid crystal panel 2.
