An expandable polystyrene resin and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to improve mechanical strength and foaming power. The expandable polystyrene resin is prepared by the steps of: dissolving 0.5-5 parts by weight of ultra-high-molecular-weight styrene resin having a weight average molecular weight of 2,000,000 or more in 100 parts by weight of a styrene monomer to prepare a mixed solution; dispersing a polymerization initiator and the mixed solution while stirring a suspension stabilizer added to water in an internal pressure polymerization tank, followed by performing polymerization to prepare resin particles; and making the polymerization tank airtight, and then impregnating the polymerized resin particles with a foaming agent while maintaining the internal temperature of the polymerization tank over the softening temperature(about 105‹C).
