A sanding control apparatus for a railway car is provided to protect a transmission which is a power transmitting shaft of the railway car by stopping automatic or manual sanding when a slip is generated. A sanding control apparatus for a railway car includes a slip detecting section(60), an automatic/manual sanding selection section(70), a sanding time control section(80), and a sanding valve section. The slip detecting section detects a slip of the railway car. The automatic/manual sanding selection section determines whether automatic sanding or manual sanding is performed if the slip is detected by the slip detecting section. The sanding is retained if a signal informing a user that the slip is being generated and the sanding is performed for a predetermined sanding period after the retention period elapses. The sanding valve section opens and closes the sanding valve under the control of the sanding period of the sanding time control section.
