PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor laser and an optical transmitter/receiver having improved tolerance against back-reflection light. SOLUTION: A semiconductor laser 30 has an active area 10 and a DBR area 8. The active area 10 has an active layer 11 constituting a laser resonator, and a complex connection diffraction grating 7 adjacent to the active layer 11. The DBT area 8 is provided at an output side apart from the active area 10, and has a wavelength selectivity. The complex connection diffraction grating 7 is adjacent to the DBR area 8, and is adjusted so that both the gain or loss of active later 11 and the refraction index are modulated cyclically.
