PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating apparatus which does not generate a coating defect and a quality decrease even in fast operations when a coating liquid is applied on the surface of a web which is supported by a backing roll and continuously runs by a blade coating process in which the coating liquid is blown out from a slitted nozzle, to form and supply a coating liquid jet. SOLUTION: In the blade coating process in which the coating liquid is blown out from the slitted nozzle 11a to form and supply the coating liquid jet and applied on the surface of the web 33 which is supported by the backing roll 31 and continuously runs, an accompanying air accompanying the web is removed by arranging an air drafting apparatus 21 having a plurality of ducts which have slitted duct openings in the nearly parallel direction to the width direction of the web so that air is drafted nearly to the vertical direction to the web progressing direction, with the starting point of the air drafting apparatus 21 being positioned 3 to 100 mm upstream of a place where the coating liquid collides with the web.
