PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat-surface discharge lamp having high reliability with an outer-face electrode free from exfoliation and with electrical characteristics that remain unchanged, even after long time of lighting. SOLUTION: The flat-surface discharge lamp 1A has a front plate 2 and rear-face plate that face at a given interval sealed airtightly, a discharge medium sealed in a discharge space 7 between the front plate and the rear-face plate, drips molten solder at an appropriate place on an outside face of the front plate or the rear-face plate, and forms an outer electrode 5 by making a glass material adhere to the solder, while impressing the latter with ultrasonic vibration.
