PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel phosphate compound functionable as a new chiral ligand. SOLUTION: The phosphate compound is represented by general formula (I) or the like. In the formula, R<SP>1</SP>is an optionally substituted 2C or higher bivalent hydrocarbon group; R<SP>2</SP>is an optionally substituted 2C or higher bivalent hydrocarbon group; two R<SP>2</SP>'s are the same or different; and a compound HO-R<SP>2</SP>-OH where two hydroxy groups are added to R<SP>2</SP>has chirality.
