PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain high-quality treated water free from the problem of the residue of unreacted nitrite nitrogen and a loaded drug by efficiently treating nitrite nitrogen-containing water such as discharged shaft cooling water in an electric power plant. SOLUTION: This treatment method comprises loading the nitrite nitrogen-containing water with an oxidant to oxidize the nitrite nitrogen into nitrate nitrogen, loading the oxidized water with a reducing agent to reduce and decompose an excess oxidant, bringing the reduced water into contact with a nitric acid-selective anion exchange resin to adsorb and remove the nitrate nitrogen, and next aerating it by air or oxygen to remove a residual reducing agent. An elute is obtained by bringing the nitric acid-selective anion exchange resin adsorbing the nitrate nitrogen into contact with sea water or sea water loaded with sodium to concentrate the nitrate nitrogen.
