PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a garbage treatment apparatus in which the no-load operation of a heater for preventing water in a water storage tank from freezing and the dry heating of the water storage tank can be prevented. SOLUTION: In the case that the water storage tank 3 is empty when power is turned on, city water W in the water storage tank 3 is not supplied to a waste water filtering screen 231 of a treatment tank 2 through a shower water pipe 44. Therefore, an operator of the garbage treatment apparatus knows that the water storage tank 3 is empty and injects water into the water storage tank. Since an electric current is not applied to the underwater heater 35 for the time longer than the time to be taken since power is turned on until water supply is started through another shower water pipe 46, the no-load operation of the underwater heater 35 and the dry heating of the water storage tank 3 can be prevented even in the case that the water storage tank 3 is empty when power is turned on.
