PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect abnormality of a part for recognizing a design pattern. SOLUTION: Test pattern data having a predetermined design pattern is generated from an image reading unit 44, input in a design recognition unit 49, presence/absence of the design pattern in the image data per unit area in the test pattern data is recognized by the design pattern recognition unit 49, its recognition result is output to the image reading unit 44, the image reading unit 44 detects that there is the abnormality in the designpattern recognition unit when the recognition result is detection of the absence of the design pattern and detects that there is no abnormality in the design pattern recognition unit 49 when the recognition result is detection of the presence of the design pattern.
